memory. culture. art.
Vedrana Madzar

Born in 1982 in Knin (Croatia), Vedrana Madzar graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade (Serbia) as the student of generation. She has received numerous awards for her achievements. Today she lives and works in Belgrade.
As an artist, she is deeply interested in forced migration issues, traumatic memory and lives of refugees, and in her work she is trying to reconstruct dreams, memories and feelings. In addition to video, photography and graphic design, she experiments with performance and installation.

Vedrana Madzar states on her aproach:
I create to bring past into present, to make dreams visible, I am telling stories the way I saw them – trough the eyes of a child. My work is deeply personal with memory as a central motive, but it does not illustrate the war: it conveys the feelings, it calls for responsibility, and it calls for preserving human dignity. I usually attempt to let the elements tell a story, sometimes using whatever materials are on hand.
My wish is to show things from different perspectives, destroy clichés, raise debate, provoke and to create artistic statements that would lasts as testimonies about the tragedy of a human being with the strength of my personal commitment as an artist and as person.
